Cheesy Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland Cavaliers Cleveland cavaliers nick named as Cavs is a professional basketball team of NBA based in Cleveland, Ohio. They started playing as a team from 1970 in the national basketball association {NBA} and they won their first major championship that was eastern conference in 2007. The first owner of this team was Nick Mileti. They started playing their home match under the coaching of bill Fitch but their performance was hopeless as they managed to compile a league worst record 15-67. In 1970 the team was honored by a brilliant player named Austin Carr who set numerous records in a short span but could not go on to become a great player as he injured his left leg which resulted in the end of his career.
The following season that was of 1972-73, the Cavaliers were seen improving its performance thanks to the young blood which was injected such as Bingo smith, Jim Cleamons, Jim Chones and Dick Snyder. In 1975-76, the talented players like Smith, Chones, Snyder and newly acquired Nate Thurmond enabled the Cavaliers to win their first division title. In that league, that Cavalier’s coach Fitch won the award for the best coach of the year. This year, Cavalier’s also won their first series against Washington bullets, 4-3 and that series was locally known as “miracle of the Richfield” but due to injuries to their key players like Jim Chones, the Cavs proceeded to lose to the Boston Celtics in Eastern conference finals of the NBA playoffs.
In 1980, the owner of cavaliers was changed from Fitch to Ted Stepien which oversaw the hiring and firing of coaches and also made few numbers of poor trade and free agent signing decision. In his tenure, he also proposed to change the name of the team to Ohio Cavaliers and also decided to play their home games in non-Ohio markets such as Buffalo, New York and Pittsburgh. He was the one who introduced polka-flavored fight song which got really popular in fans and the media. The performance of the cavaliers in his tenure was ridiculous as they made the NBA all time longest losing streak record by losing last 24 games. Due this result there was a huge decline in the fan following.
From 1983-1993, the new looked team was formed under the ownership of Gund brothers. The players like Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, Ron Harper and Larry Nance were traded into the team. Although these players were later traded to the Los Angeles clippers in 1989.under the coaching of Lenny Wilken, Cavs won eight playoff seasons in the next nine years including three 50+ win seasons.
The period 1993-2003 was the long struggle period as the graph of the Cavalier’s performance declined due to the retirement of their main players like Nance, Daughtery and Price. In 1994 the Cavs were popular as the best defensive team of NBA coached by Mike Fratello. But could not manage to win any major season. In 2003 due to this dismal performance cavaliers selected the local high level phenomenon Lebron Jame and change the color of the kit and their logo. The owner and coach also got changed in 2005 and then came the golden era and from then till now Cavaliers have become a confident and consistent performing side. |
